Balloon - Image Change
Heather managed to find me this high resolution image of a hot air balloon event so that i can use it instead of the pixelated images i have at the moment.
Its a great image as there are some nice sections to choose from for my cover and then my poster and banner.
If you want to see the developed designs with this image then the continue here
Astronomy - Website mock ups
I have had the idea for this website since i started this brief and have been avoiding it a little as i have never designed a website before.
I started with getting a grid of 10 column and gathering what content would go on it. The splash page was the link to my concept as i had just the logo sat on the page, but this would also be the entry to the site. When the logo is pressed the screen will turn black and a 'glow in the dark' site will appear.
The rest of the site is based around the same template for each page and just the content changes. I have tried to show a variety of pages here so show how the space works with each page and how you would navigate through it.
The pattern in the back would stay the same but i would have it almost glistening so it looks like more realistic stars.
Astronomy - Postcard Mock ups
These postcards will be included in the Astronomy pack that kids will pick up and carry on the same theme as the rest of the designs and there will be about 25 of them, one for each constellation. These postcard will have the logo on the front which once again instructs you to 'turn off the light' and when you do they will reveal one constellation.
The back of the card is simple but as i want these to be particle and want them to be send to people to spread the word.
When the light i turned off the postcards will glow in the dark to reveal one constellation, this will have an enlarged image of the stars, the name and the representation of it. If people receive these in the post they will be inclined to look it up and find out what this is about so there is a link to the website and a small sentence on what the campaign is for.
Astronomy - Glow in the dark stickers
I really wanted to print all this material for this project and get it working properly but because of all the problems with print, e.g. screen going missing and not able to print the negative i ran out of time on producing these designs. Therefor i have become a wiz on photoshop and mocking up products, such as these stickers which will be in the astronomy pack to be stuck anywhere the viewer wants. I have mocked them up next to a light switch as its a particle way of using them and a reminder about the campaign.
Although this isn't the best mock up ever, i think it shows the initial idea of what is going on and how they are used. The image of the moon has been shown to represent the night and how we see the moon brightest at night.

Astronomy - Mock ups
Unfortunately the glow in the dark prints hadn't have worked as well as i hoped so i have had to mock them up to show how the designs would work.
They will all be kept in this box which will be sold at the science museum in London, and hopefully the simple clean identity will be enough for kids of pick up. But it wont be until they get home and are in the dark that they see what this product is all about.
The Loft - Christmas Card Development
After going over the Christmas card again, i quickly came up with this, really simple clean and slick design that for me could work for many different audiences. The colours are from the loft logo so in keeping with their identity but hopefully showing the creativity of their space.
Astronomy -Solar System Imagery
As i have changed the poster from the constellations to the solar system i have been looking into different ways in which to snow the planets all together.
I have tried to keep the proportions of the planets mathematically correct in relation to each other so that the view gets an idea of the sizes of our planets. I also tried adding the rotation circles around them which isn't needed but it shows that these planets move around each other so i think its relevant to see.
I think this layout woks the best for me, its simple, straight to the point and its clear to understand.
The Loft - Christmas Card
I designed a Christmas card really quickly to see what I could produce in a quite turnover brief. This card has a few good elements but the whole design isn't quite right for a creative Christmas card design.
Jon Smith was happy with elements of this card so i am going to spend another hour or so and just develop this more into a suitable card for The Loft.

Balloon - Photo Shoot
These are some of the final product shots that i have taken for the Balloon Fiesta Promotional Material. I also have a publication but i am hoping to have that finished by the had it so those photos will be up within the next week hopefully.
I am very please with the designs, however the poster is still getting mixed reviews, I have tried adjusting it but its still not quite right so this will need to be developed a little more before hand in.
Glue Marketing - The Loft
Jonathan Smith came in today to talk to us about business and getting jobs after we graduate, some of the main things that i picked up on while he was talking were these :
- Design yourself a creative CV and when appropriate add personality rather than just the dry facts and figures.
- Always carry a portfolio with you, weather this is on CD or USB or paper based, just something that you can easily pass on to someone if the chance comes about.
- If there are any part time courses to develop your skills then this is great to put on you CV and any extra skills or qualifications will separate you from the rest.
- Find out a bit about the company you are applying for a job at, why do you like them, why do you want to work for them and why are you appropriate to their team.
- Networking is essential, attend Creative Networks and get your name out there and start talking to the right people.
- Sign up to 'LinkedIn' as this is a site for networking online with other professionals, have all CV uploaded and a small portfolio so people can look through your work.
- Think about freelance, the best time to set up a business is now. Getting the right group of people together that compliment each other. You have nothing to loose right now so do it.
So far i have signed up to LinkedIn as this was also mentioned by John Watters, so if you want to see my profile go here.
Im also part of the Creative Networks team so i go to these networking events as staff but i have done a bit if networking aswell.
When john came in he also set us a quick brief to design a corporate flyer for 'The Loft Leeds' and a creative Christmas card. He gave us about an hour and a half to come up with something for the flyer and it was interesting working so quick but i managed to get an idea quick and developed it a little before showing him.
Here is my first attempts (and keep in mind that i hadn't mastered Illustrator CS5 at this point)
Over the weekend we had change to finish this up and to design the christmas card but the main thing was not to spend ages on this. He wants to see what we can do with a quick turn over so i gave it my best shot and even though they are not the best designs i could have done they are DONE which is the important thing. As Fred says "its not what you can do, its what you can do to the deadline".
So here are the final designs that were sent of to John.
